High School Baseball

Every spring and summer there are designated prefectural high school baseball tournaments throughout Japan. Winners of these tournaments will get an opportunity to compete for national titles at Koshien stadium. There are 47 prefectures in Japan and on average there are about 50 teams per a prefecture that will try to qualify for Koshien. They will also have to qualify for the prefecture tournament at district tournaments. All the games at the prefectural and national levels will be broadcasted on TV. A local station interview/profiled us before the tournament began.

After my first high school baseball experience, I have to say it is very different from pro games, you can feel their passion, obsession and really see the emotions and effort they put in the games. We lost by a wide margin, however, during the game the players continued to battle until the very last out. No matter what the score was, the atmosphere was eccentric with the school band, cheerleaders and supporters chanting, rain or shine. Everyone involved from the teachers, coaches and parents helping out with the preparations leading up to the games were simply amazing.
